ECOSYSTEM-BASED FORESTRY

Since its creation, Dendroica Environnement et Faune has been involved with the forest industry and gouvernment agencies in ecosystem-based forestry management projects throughout Canada.

Here are some recent examples of projects managed in the field of ecosystem-based forestry management since 1997.

  • Breeding bird and species at risk survey in four intramunicipal public lands of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais for compliance with the Forest Stewardship Council rules.

  • Habitat modeling of three species at risk (American ginseng, Canada Warbler, Olive-sided Flycatcher) in the intramunicipal public lands of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais.

  • Decription of the nesting and feeding ecology of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers in the boreal forest region of Fort Liard, N.W.T.

For the Canadian Wildlife Services

  • Monitoring changes in cavity-nesting bird populations in different forestry cut regimes in the region of Kamloops, B.C.

For the B.C. Ministry of forest

  • Habitat use assessment of Three-toed Woodpecker in an experimental cut blocks study in the mountain ecosystems of Sicamous Creek, B.C.

For the B.C. Ministry of forest

  • Pileated Woodpecker habitat suitability index assessment in Mastigouche wildlife reserve and in La Mauricie national parc, Que.

For the Québec ministry of Environment and wildlife and Parks Canada

  • Habitat assessment and restoration for the introduction of four game species (ringed-neck pheasant, American woodcock, Ruffed grouse and Gray partridge) in Smiths Falls, Ont.
